It is a type of combat sport that is part of the training in Wushu. The translation of this word means “free fighting”.

Wushu, as a system of warrior training of course, had its own methods of conducting such duels – sanda. The duels were fought on a platform about one meter high. The loser was the one who was at the bottom or could not stand up. But such kind of a duel was very dangerous for a fighter and often could cause a fatal outcome.  Moreover, the basis of wushu training is the fastest possible fight and the attack in the most vulnerable places in the first place.

Therefore, over time, as social relations and many other factors changed, the term “Sanda” began to be applied to one-on-one combat on the platform or in the ring and evolved into a system of sports combat, the origin of which is taken from traditional styles of martial arts.

Among the martial arts developed in the modern world, Sanda has its own special place. It is quite a tough system of full-contact fighting, which uses a very wide arsenal of techniques. This is a striking technique with hands and feet, throws, grappling, pushing and releasing from the clutches. All this should happen with lightning speed, because only 3 seconds are given to perform a technical action.

As said before, Sanda has its origins in traditional kung fu. Therefore, it trains skills that are important in tr犀利士 aditional martial arts styles.  The spirit of sanda is speed, strength and technique.

As a type of competition, sanda has its own specific set of rules which sets it apart from other similar martial arts such as kick boxing, muay thai, mma, k-1. The skills of the sanda fighter allow him to work with any of the representatives of other martial arts.

However, for example, unlike mma, where the fight is purely a one-on-one sport, although quite tough, sanda is based on the principles of traditional real martial arts, where the basic rule is that on the battlefield there is never a one-on-one fight and the fighter must be ready to face 2, 3 or more opponents.

Therefore the rules framework is built in such a way as to try to minimize the development of techniques and wrestling, working exclusively against one opponent. For example it is forbidden to wrestle in the ground, a long clinch, however any techniques, allowing to throw the opponent on the floor quickly are permitted, and the throw or the technique which has led to the fall of the opponent, while the fighter himself has remained on his feet, is estimated with the high point. And there are a lot of such “little things”. And those who want to join this unique and universal system are destined to understand them.
